NEC LaVie G Type J Black Limited Edition Laptop
MobileWhack looks at the laptop, and seems unimpressed because it does not include an optical drive.
There’s no DVD/CD drive in the package (explains the weight loss?). You have to buy one separately. Sounds crazy to me. Who in their right mind would want to buy a laptop without a DVD/CD drive?
The launch date is set for February 28th in Japan. Price including tax is 199,794 Yen. There’s a three-year warranty being thrown in as well. Skip this one is my advise.
I think he misses the point of the machine. With internet connections pushing ahead faster and faster, the LaVie does not really need an optical drive, and would make the perfect travelling notebook for someone like me. It has a battery rated at six hours of use, and with its 1.2GHz Pentium M processor, 768MB of Ram, and an 80 Gigabyte hard drive, it has more than enough horsepower to do the things I would need it for. Though I must admit, if I were to say that there is a drawback to this laptop, I would not say it is the lack of the optical drive, I would say that it is the 12 inch screen which I have heard from many laptop users, that it is just too small for prolonged use, and a 14.1 inch screen is much more comfortable.
Unfortunately, this looks like it will be a machine for those over in Asia only, and to make it even more hard for me to get, there are only 200 units of this black-colored limited-edition being produced.
