Acer Ferrari 4000

Acer Ferrari 4000The Ferrari line from Acer has always been well styled and well equipped. The latest Acer Ferrari 4000 is no execption with its Italian styling and nice car emblem branding.

Unlike other Ferrari designs, the 4000 series has a more subdued, interesting black carbon fiber casing and rubberized materia, using the red only as an accent.

The engine under the hood is a 2 GHz AMD Turion 64 processor. A little on the heavy side, the 6.3-pound portable is more like a desktop replacement. The graphics are powered by ATI’s Mobilty Radeon X700 card which is a bit above the level of most laptops out there on the consumer market.

On the front, you’ll find the 5-in-1 memory card reader, infrared, headphone and mic jacks, plus buttons to turn the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections on and off. There are three USB 2.0 ports on the right side, next to the double-layer DVD burner. The fourth USB is on the left along with the PC Card slot, FireWire, Ethernet, modem, and VGA ports.

The 4000’s 3 hours and 15 minutes of battery life isn’t amazing, but it is pretty comparable to other laptops in the same performance range, and still leaves you with plenty of time away from an AC adapter.

The Acer Ferrari 4000 is not perfect though as its speakers are a little weak, but a good pair of headphones or high quality speakers can fix that, and the software included id pretty limited for a laptop in this price range.

If you are looking for something stylish, but not too “in your face”, with enough power to do just about everything, the Acer Ferrari 4000 might be for you, atleast if you can swing the $2,199 USD price tag.
