Samsung X11 Review

Samsung X11Pocket-lint, with their new design, have a review up on the Samsung X11, an ultraportable machine with some decent Core Duo processing power, and hard drive space.

Samsung has a reputation for delivering ultraportable notebooks at an aggressive price and the X11 follows a similar theme. At £750 (inc. VAT) it comes with an affordable price tag, especially when you consider it’s running a dual-core processor in the form of the Intel Core Duo T2300 (1.66GHz). While this isn’t the fastest chip on the market, it’ll more than get the job done.

In the end they gave the Samsung X11, an eight out of ten, which is well above average. See other 14 inch screen laptops at Digital Advisor.

Samsung X60 Review

Samsung X60Pocket-lint reviews the Samsung X60, a widescreen notebook with dual-core performance, without being too heavy.

Perhaps the first surprise is the weight, which at 2.6kg, is a lot lighter than your average widescreen machine. That’s not to say it’s ultra-portable as it’s quite a bulky machine. We carried it around for a couple days and while the weight isn’t really an issue, you know you’ve been carrying a notebook around.

The screen has a great finish to it. The 1680 x 1050-pixel resolution and use of a Super-TFT coating means it’s sharp and clear to look at, ideal if you want to edit photos or movies, or simply sit back and watch a DVD.

In the end the X60 earns itself a rating of 8 out of 10. The only thing they list negatively towards the machine is its very average battery life, which I agree, should be better.

Samsung Q1 Review

Samsung Q1TabletPCReviewSpot has a first look review of the Samsung Q1, an ultra-mobile personal computer, or UMPC.

They summarize the review in two paragraphs, saying:

I actually like it. You have to know what you’re getting with this type of device and understand the target market. While I believe the target for the Q1 is extremely narrow, for those who need a cost effective, highly portable slate Tablet PC, the Q1 is going to be a solid option.

For me, the UMPC would be an extravagance, a secondary display while I’m at my desk. It might also fill a few minor portable computing voids I have, at times when the Treo isn’t powerful enough and I want something smaller than my notebook. I don’t think it’s worth $1100 for someone like me though, unless your addiction to gadgets outweighs your concerns for fiscal responsibility.

I totally see where he is coming from, and I have not really seen the UMPC as something I currently want, but it really seems like a Star Trek device or something, and I like that direction. Something more powerful than a pocket PC, but smaller and lighter than a full on tablet. I can see this niche market growing exceptionally well, if they keep the prices of the machines down and work more on battery life and processing power.

Samsung X11 Core Duo

The X11 has been highly praised as a really decent machine to have, and now it comes with a Core Duo processor which they say will give an increase of 30% in “speed” compared to the non-Core Duo version.

Samsung X60 Dual Core Notebook

Samsung X60 Dual Core NotebookBIOS Magazine takes a look at the new X60, a dual core “Yonah” based laptop.

Samsung has joined the dual core laptop party. The X60 (£899 ex. VAT) and R65 (£999 ex. VAT) both feature Intel’s new dual core processors (codenamed Yonah) and are pitched at home users.

Key features of the X60 include a weight of 2.4kg, 15.4-inch SuperClear display featuring Samsung’s exclusive Digital Natural Image Enhancement (DNIE) for ‘outstanding’ image quality, as well as embedded PCI-Express Gigabit LAN solution, guaranteeing a stable network connection without the use of a PCI device.

‘Laptop users increasingly demand powerful but stylish products that combine the functionality of a desktop PC with the portability of a laptop,’ said Mark Jennings, Notebook Marketing Manager at Samsung Electronics UK. ‘The inclusion of Intel’s recently launched dual core processor in these two laptop enables Samsung to meet this demand and offer more computing power, increased battery life and complete connectivity, without compromising design and portability.’

I am so excited about the new Yonah based notebooks to see what they can do in the real world. Hopefully, as many manufacturers create machines with these processors, we can get some decent benchmarks in on how much better they are than the previous generation.

Samsung X1 Laptop Review

Samsung X1 LaptopPocket-Lint takes a look at the Samsung X1 ultraportable notebook and in the end gives it a seven out of a possible ten in their rating scale.

The Samsung X1 is a novel new take on the idea of the ultraportable, but can it deliver the goods?

Samsung is a name better associated with more consumery devices such as televisions or mobile phones rather than computer equipment but its notebook line has under gone something of a re-invention of late.

At one time, the company was happy to simply offer notebooks similar to other vendors – it has even licensed Sony’s Memory Stick technology – but if the X1 is anything to go by, those days may be drawing to a close.

One of my favorite things about the X1 is its great battery life at around five hours with the larger battery and a good four hours with the smaller battery.

Samsung X06 Review

No matter how great a laptop may be, having a low battery life is a big no-no from me. The Samsung X06 gets a good once over on Notebook Review, but as nice as they say it is, the 2 hour battery makes me cross the X06 off my list of “want-to-haves”.

The Samsung X06 is one of a raft of recent offerings from Samsung. It comes under their “Thin and Light” range, though I’d suggest in practice it fits somewhere between “Thin and Light” and “Ultra-Portable”. I suspect Samsung were designing a machine for modestly stingy people wanting performance and a CD-RW/DVD in a remarkably small 14.1″ case. There have been a few concessions to achieve this, but they are minor compared to the resulting portability and performance gains. You can carry the X06 around town without noticing its weight or bulk and yet it has a large enough screen and processing power to make using bigger applications an almost “desktop-replacement” experience.

Samsung M70, a 19 inch Laptop

Samsung M70

Well, for those out there that want a bigger screen Samsung heard you, and if they 19″ is not large enough, detach it and plug in something else. You lose the portability, but it is an amazing concept.

Samsung has launched two new laptops which promise to turn the conventional notebook design on its head.

The Samsung M70 is the world’s first 19 inch notebook computer with detachable screen, while the the Samsung X1 is according to Samsung the world’s thinnest and lightest 14 inch Wide Centrino Notebook Computer.

The M70’s detachable display can also be used as a full sized 19” monitor with existing home PCs, and also be used with any future notebook upgrades delivering significant cost savings.

Samsung X1 Review

Samsung X1The folks over at Hardware Zone give a 3.5 out of 5 in their review of the Samsung X1.

If the flamingly sexy Q30 from Samsung is the notebook that could set the hearts of the female workforce pulsating with desire, then the latest X1 from the Korean giant could well cast the same spellbinding effect on cleanly shaved and well groomed new age men in search of a tasteful yet competent mobile computing slab. Unlike the alluring red shade of the 1.10kg Q30, the color of choice for the X1 is a slightly more conventional combination of light silver and matte black - so as to blend in with the corporate tone of most offices.

This is one of the first laptops I have seen without a touchpad. Its makes it kind of odd looking.
