HP Pavilion dv1000

HP Pavilion dv1000The HP Pavilion dv1000 is a great widescreen wireless notebook for the price aware multimedia enthusiasts. It doesn’t have much in the way of graphics horsepower, but at 5.5lbs its instant-on playback of music and DVDs, dual headphone jacks, and easy-to-use controls is sure to make this a favorite thin-and-light notebook.

HP’s QuickPlay feature is probably the best feature on this notebook, with the ability to start watching DVDs or listening to CDs or MP3s without having to wait and boot into Windows. There’s one button for starting movie playback and one for music just a little above the keyboard.

The 14-inch BrightView widescreen gives you plenty of real estate for Web surfing and watching DVD. The 60GB hard drive, 1.7-GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and a double layer DVD burner all come together to create a pretty nice machine. The specs are rounded out with Intel’s passable graphics and a strong 802.11g connection. The nearly 3.5 hours of battery life is good enough but not excellent.

A well rounded notebook with some great multimedia features, currently running a bit above the $1000 mark.
