WinBook X610

WinBook X610Earning itself a middle of the road, two and a half out of five at Laptop Magazine, the WinBook X610 is neither good or bad for the $1399 USD that it will set you back.

A fast ultraportable notebook with an 80GB hard drive and dual-layer DVD burner for less than $1,400? Amazing, but true. As usual, you get what you pay for—or don’t get—like Bluetooth or the shiny screens found on other models with steeper price tags. Worse, with that lower price comes a lot less battery life than the competition.

At 3.3 pounds, the X610 weighs eight ounces more than Sony’s VAIO TX 630, yet it’s certainly no shoulder-buster. It won’t win any beauty contests, but the X610’s pewter and black finish make at least a stab at stylish sophistication.

As usual the thing that makes me put a thumbs down to this machine is that it lacks in two important areas for me: battery life and wireless connection.
